Panelists:

Tom Tull is the Chief Investment Officer at the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS), which manages a $24.0 billion retirement trust on behalf of state employees and retirees who are the beneficiaries of the trust. Previously, he was a founding partner of Gulfstream Global Investors, Ltd., an SEC-registered investment adviser specializing in international equity management that was sold to West LB of Germany in January 2001. Mr. Tull has decades of experience in the alternative investment and pension fund management industries.


Paul Ballard serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of the Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company, which manages, invests and safeguards funds for the state and its various subdivisions.Prior to joining the Trust Company, Mr. Ballard was the Executive Administrator and CIO of the Texas Permanent School Fund, a $20 billion endowment benefiting K-12 public education in the state of Texas. His institutional funds management experience includes having served as Executive Director of the Kansas City Missouri Public School Retirement System.


Brian Goldman is Managing Member & Chief Investment Officer and founder of Lanx Management, LLC. He has spent the past 22 years evaluating and investing in the alternative investment arena, and structuring hedge fund investment portfolios for multiple family office and institutional clients. Prior to founding Lanx, Mr. Goldman served as a partner and managing director at C.E. Unterberg Towbin, where he co-founded the firm’s Alternative Investment Group. He was responsible for conducting due diligence and allocating to hedge fund, private equity and other alternative investment managers on behalf of family offices, high net worth individuals and institutions.   

  

Moderator:  K.P. "Kip" McDaniel is the Editor-in-Chief and Executive Vice President of Asset International’s Chief Investment Officer (aiCIO)—a magazine focused on the world’s largest pension, sovereign wealth, insurance, and endowment & foundation investors. Before becoming the founding editor of the magazine in 2009, Kip was a member of the Canadian National Rowing Team. He has degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Cambridge University (MA), and originally hails from Vancouver Island, Canada. He now resides in New York City.
